The Hurricane

The Hurricane.

The “Cane” is probably the most versatile battle-cruiser of all factions. It can do alot of things and is able (unless rigged) to change its role for what you need. This small overview of the Cane will let you know what it is capable of and how to fit it for whatever role.

The Cane can successfully fit the role of a armor tanking pvp, passive shield pve and a salvage ship. Each of these have various different designs (apart from the salvage cane) in fitting but they stick to the core principles of armor and shield tanking. For this overview, we will imagine all modules used are T1.

Armor tanking

The cane is a very impressive pvp battleship. It’s ability to change ammo for whatever damage is apart of what makes it so versatile. To be able to do this in mid battle, you will need a good tank if you want to survival long enough. This should only be done if you have something tackled that you need a little bit more dps to destroy, of if you know the target before hand; EM for a Raven, phased plasma for a Apoc etc.

hurricanefitting3

This is a general armor pvp setup. The fitting on this is;

High slots;

6 x 220 vulcan autocannon I

2 x assault missile launchers

Medium slots;

1 x 10mn afterburner

1x statis webifer

1x medium cap injector

1x warp distributor

Low slots;

1 x medium armor repairer

1 x damage control unit

1 x energized adaptive membrane

3 x armor hardeners (kinetic, thermal, explosive)

This kind of setup is generally the normal cane setup. It has decent survivability and is able to dish out a decent amount of dps. If you are apart of a gang, you can change the lower slots for gyros (maybe take out two of the hardeners for two gyros). If that is the case, then you can chop and change to what you like.

Shield tanking

The cane does passive shield tanking extremely well. You can even fit a cane that will surpass the drake in passive shield tanking, but at the expense of dps. There is a middle ground though, where it becomes very viable in missions up to lvl 3.

hurricanefitting2

This setup is the ultimate passive shield tanking Hurricane. T2 module’s is where this really becomes unbreakable. Even though this setting is not PvE practical, it is a good place to start and to get the feel of the cane in missions. The setup is as follows;

High slots;

6 x 720mm howitzer artillery I

2 x assault missile launchers

Mid slots;

1 x invulnerability field

3 x large shield extenders

Low slots;

6 x shield power relay’s

Rigs;

3 x Core defence shield purgers

This is probably a skill extensive (and isk extensive!) ship to fit, but consider that if you are fairly new, then the skills required for this are skills that you will use throughout the game during your eve career. Secondly, you probably wont lose this ship once, and will make the isk back soon enough.

It is definitely worth saving for in my opinion. You will always have a use for it. If you ever wanted to help tank a level 3 mission for a corp members, then you will always have this ship.

Once you get the feel of this ship, you could replace two power shield relays for gyros. You will have to mind your tank, but it is still able to tank most level 3′s and also enable you to finish the mission much more faster.

Salvage Ship

I have been flying this to salvage my level 4′s for almost a year. It is an extremely nice salvage ship. Its fast, has the high slots for optimal salvaging and enough low slots to give you a considerable cargohold.

salvagecane1

The fitting for this is;

High slots;

4 x small tractor beams

4 x salvagers

Mid slots;

3 x cap rechargers

1 x 10mn afterburner

low slots;

6 x expanded cargoholds

Rigs;

3 x salvage tackle

I used to finish a level 4 and come back in this setup. You can mop up a blockade or AE very quickly in this. I will be using the salvage cane for a long while as well. It is a really basic but extremely practical ship. The next ship up from this is a typhoon, but that will be for another day.

I hope this small overview gives you a good insight on what you want to be using your cane for (if your wise enough to train minmatar!). Any feedback would be very welcome, so i can improve this overview and others once i get the time to do them.

    Hey, nice post!

    I just got myself a Cane and I was wondering how to fit it.
    I might just do something like your passive shield tanking.

    Thanks!

    starters is this a joke
    Even with all lv5 this passive tank wont fit. This Magic Core defence shield purger? sry but i like to use items that do exist, such as core defence field purger.

    for passive tank with all lv5
    you could fit
    6xpower relay II
    1xInvulnerability Field II
    2xmedium shield extender II
    1xlarge shield extender II
    6x720mm Howitzer Art I
    2xassault missile launchers II
    3xcore defence field purger

    most people dont have these type of skills so i would suggest that use tir1 where needed such as the shield extenders. dont go out and waist mills on Large shield extenders when they wont fit. and its Defence field rig not the other.

    I flew this passive shield tanked cane while ratting. I spent a month or two training for the skills to eventually fit all the mods needed. Eventually as my skills increased I swapped tanking modules for more dps.

    I have this Passivecane parked somewhere, and its great for letting other corp members test their dps on. Its tanked faction bs’s with someone who has level 5 in ships and gunnery so it tanks extremely well.

    Its perfect for ratting and level 3/4′s. It could be used as a bait ship as well, as long as you had the support ready once your engaged.
